The other day was Easter. You


The other day was Easter. You've bought "egg bleach kit" in the drug store nearby to say that Innovation "! Breaching egg" Todd is revved up this year. I did not know at all Nantes there is such a thing. There is also the more indifferent to me about events these things I mean. . We are amazed of yourself and again. Put the water in a plastic bowl, dissolve the tablet of bleach for. Only use the balancing part. Extend to six ultracapacitors. Your ultracapacitors will last about ten to twenty years, when you add a seventh the ultracaps will last for a century (longer than engine of car), because the voltage drops below 2.2V per ultracap. You have to calculate the voltage dividers for approx 2V. Ps, Your link to digikey does not yeild the caps in the video. Digikey does not stock that part any more. The part that comes up from your link has four connectors all on one end. Maxwell Manufacturer number is BCAP0350 E250 T11. Also check T03 and T09. If you know of a supplier that still carries the exact caps you used please post link, thx.

Hey, has anyone been sent a “exploded view” series self reliance of pixs or drawings of the first 6-pack caps that was shown on youtube ??? I have asked myself more than once and have noticed that others have also asked, but I have not to this date seen ANY response or pixs show up. What gives here…we are trying to amass enough information to DIY , but have not received any input to our questions…help would be a very good thing!!! Don
What would be the best thing to use as an emergency-sort of battery that could very rarely be used, but when the main battery is dead, a flip of a switch could switch to the backup and start the car? I assume capacitors might not be best, as you said they discharge quickly.
I was thinking of changing self reliance my jumper cable boost pack with a lead acid battery to LiFePO4′s with a pcm, but with a Mini-BoostPack the worries I had with to small size of a pack goes away. I plan on having part of the space used by the ultra-caps and the other part be use the batteries.
Charging capacitor in series is tricky, because each capacitor has a different voltages i.e. some might be 2.2v and other 2.0v. To cater this problem, you need a balancer BUT the easiest and cheapest way is to charge your capacitor only upto 90% of its capacity. By doing this, all capacitors will always be in same voltage range. Car alternator produce 14.6 voltages approx, but all electrical equipment in car are 12V, these extra 2.6V is only to charge the car battery. So, when switching car battery with high caps, one has to adjust the car alternator voltages to 12V, in order to keep the capacitors in balance. self reliance
lasersaber, Can you make a 3D pack holder for the mini-BoostPack like you did for the nano-BoostPack, but without having to cut the outside of the ultra cap off? I would like to have a pair of mini-BooskPacks to put in my battery booster and my soon to be built SolN2 “solar suitcase system”.

Question on charging stench 12v car battery with step-down transformer, safety issues

Hello, I have an AC->DC step down transformer that outputs at 12v (max 13v, can be adjusted with potentiometer). It is rated at 10A. 1) If I were to connect it to my dead car battery would it even charge? If not, how should I go about charging it from the mains? stench 2) If it charges, would it charge safely? If not, do I need any resistors or fuses? 3) How should I monitor the charging or know when it's good enough for cranking? Thank you!

Ok, found it. The bigger step-down is as follow: 1. Output voltage: 12VDC 2. Output error: stench ± 1% 3. Output current: 0~20A 4. Wave and noise: 150MP-p 5. Output power: 300W DC 6. Efficiency: 82% 7. Voltage range: 10-13.2 8. Input voltage range: 88~132VAC 176V~264VDC 47~63Hz 9. Input current: 6A/115V 3.5A/230V 10. Impact current: 20A/115V 40A/230V (Cold-start)
The bigger of the two should manage it. Its a beefy charger, but I think it will be OK, because the output voltage limit is just about ideal. Try it, ideally with a good high current meter in series - most little stench DVMs won't handle 20A.
The meter needs to be a 20A rating at least - that's what the supply can give you. You'll see a very high current for a minute or two I suspect, but then it will decay exponentially as the battery charges. You terminate charge when the open circuit voltage reaches ~13V -that's why I worry that the supply isn't going to be quite high enough output volts to charge fully. Stop when the charging current drops to ~0.2 A - that's pretty well guess work. A plain powersupply is NOT a charger, it CAN do the job, kind-of - even "official" car battery chargers don't do it properly, unless you pay big bucks. Steve

the motors are brushless dc and they may need the inverter that sometimes is included in the original battery There is nothing in this sentence that makes sense. cmpc First, he's trying to power an Arbotix, which is a microcontroller board. It should run fine off a car battery. Second, the hexapod is obviously using Dynamixel cmpc servos, which do not need separate motor drivers. Third, I have never seen an inverter built into a battery pack. Also, the more common name for them in hobby circuits is "ESC" (electronic speed control) as "inverter" is typically used for heavy-duty equipment (house power, electric cars, etc) but I think it's technically correct to still call the hobby-size ESCs "inverters" just like BECs are really "DC DC power converters" :-) So, Arbotix not working? My only guess is that you're either hooking it up with reverse connections (switched + and -) or you have a break in your connecting wire or connectors somewhere.
hi, it is because the motors cmpc are brushless dc and they may need the inverter that sometimes is included cmpc in the original battery. Let me know if I am right. WTF? This is a legged bot, not a plane or helicopter. The bot uses dynamixel servos (AX-series) which have all the brushed DC motor control internal to the servo. Just apply power and sends serial commands.

Have you checked your wiring's continuity with a multimeter? Is there actually 12V reaching the arbotix, or is it not making it past your masking tape splice? I do not trust twisting cables together and then applying tape to ensure a solid electrical connection. Crimp connectors cmpc and solder are both easy and inexpensive ways to ensure a very reliable connection. Also be aware that while the arbotix can accomodate up to 16V, the AX-series servos will probably not like a voltage larger than 12.6V (maximum from a fully charged cmpc 3S LiPo battery). The AX-servos cmpc were originally designed for 8S NiMH batteries (9.6V) and well regulated 12V power supplies.
Martin, are you aware you built your Hex with the body upside down? Not that it matters I suppose, just a deviation of the assembly guide. Though it leaves your wires down the legs very loose and prone to getting caught in the legs. In regards to the car battery, I would agree with the others it has got to be the masking tape splice. 12V strips work straight off a 12 V battery. Its really that simple ;-) Sound ? Try and find some PC

My situation is this, theres this old farm building i want to do up and make into a chill out room, but the place is not connect the any type of power supply, barbecook or if it was im not gonna try and fix it. i just want to get some lights in the place to make it look good, nothing major just a strip of leds running along the floor lighting barbecook the walls.  barbecook If i bought a simple 12v led strip  and a 12v battery box ( the ones that support AA) how long would that last for? i need it to work for at least 3-5 hours. if this is impossible would a 12v solar panel be better ? something barbecook like this  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-12V-SOLAR-PANEL-BATTERY-CHARGER-CAR-CAMPING-CARAVAN-/230995256615?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item35c863e527 i could just connect the croc clicks (or cut them down and solder) them straight onto the led strip ? if both these are bad ideas im open for suggestions also would i be able to have a controllable LED strip to be able to run off these two types of power ?  (and just a random add on question, if i wanted to power some speakers without it connecting to the mains how would i?) So the way to find you answer. First you need to know a few numbers. First what is the total amperage draw of all of your LED's combined. Next you need to know the milliamp-hour (mah) rating of your battery pack and do a little math by dividing your supply by your demand. Those are the real pieces of the puzzle missing from your question. For example using some made up numbers if your batteries combined give you 12v rated at 1500 mah (1.5 amp hour) and your LED's draw 1500 milliamps (1.5 amps) your battery pack will last one hour (1500mah/1500ma = 1hour). Using the same figures if your LED's draw 750 milliamps your battery pack will last 2 hours (1500mah/750ma = 2hours). Now to the question about the solar panel. The peak wattage of that panel is 1.5 watts . At 1.5 watts your 12v LED's can only draw .125 amps there is a calculator that can give you this information here http://www.supercircuits.com/resources/tools/volts-watts-amps-converter. barbecook Another suggestion would be a battery meant for RC vehicles. They come in various voltage/mah configurations. hobbypartz.com is a good source. Everything I have purchased for my RC projects has come from there. They are in the U.S. so sipping isn't too long, and customer service has never let me down.
Follow up answer. I missed the question about control. That would be a matter of how much control or what type of control you want. If you just need on and off just a simple toggle switch in line with the negative wire will do. If you want other types of control, flashing, fading, on when it gets dark, etc. there are many different fairly simple circuits to do those types of things. One of the basic function for beginners with and Arduino is controlling LED's.

car battery are a bit to expensive for the lights , dont mind on the speakers but what ive done for the lights is bougt a strip (5M 5050 RGB SMD LED) with a IR remote, and to power it i bought a 12v battery box, so i can just slot the batterys in and out and also which it off and on but it needs a 12v adapter for it, i have one but as i cant plug it into the mains i cant use it, but if i use the end the plugs into the device which powers it and cut it and split it then solders it onto my 12v battery case will it work ? (will it last a decent barbecook amount of time)
that simple barbecook wow haha as for the speakers when u say power brick, u mean that block thats attached to the cable that plugs in to the mains, so if i just cut the cable before the power brick and attach it to a car battery it would work ?

BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 12V Battery Plate DIY » CheesyCam
As amazing as this little camera is, it’s annoying that the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera requires airwick extra juice just to make it run for more than 40 minutes. I tried the Switronix Pocketbase (seen here) which works, but I personally grew tired of the form factor, and how it blocks access to the SD Card (battery door) so I decided to DIY my own adapter.
The BMPC DC input uses a 12V power source, so i’ve decided to use a 12V battery plate that i’ve just added the proper 2.5mm OD x 0.7mm ID barrel adapter airwick tip to. It’s hardly DIY since all you have to do is cut off the tip and replace it with the proper sized DC Plug.
These battery plates will take a certain battery and step the voltage up to 12V. I’ve even tested the guts against a Sony 7.4V battery, and it works great, but decided to go back to the original battery plate because of it’s slim profile. If you dig hard enough you can find many of these battery plates online dedicated for common Canon LP-E6, or Sony L Series / NP-F Type batteries.
You can see how handy it is to have a cage for mounting accessories on the BMPCC. I could either keep the battery off to the side, or relocate it to the rails with a clamp. There are many great cages on the market, but in the video i’m using the Shape Cage for the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera .
If you stuck with the Canon BP battery plate + Canon BP battery + DC Plug, I would say this entire DIY project will run $50 dollars or less and take you less than 5 minutes (yes that total cost even includes the battery). It’s much cheaper than other off the shelf products in retail stores right now to power the BMPCC, and I find it to be a clean and simple solution.
Here’s the 12V step up Battery Plate i’m using which takes the Canon BP batteries airwick typically used in the older GL2 camcorders. Eventually i’ll track down a cheap Canon LP-E6 battery plate or Sony L Series plate and use these guts to step it up to 12V. Here’s my current parts list below if you want to tackle this for yourself.
If you’re looking to DIY your own power cable for the Pocket Cinema Camera, the specs for the power plug from BlackMagic Design are 2.5mm OD x 0.7mm ID which you can find on eBay. To keep things small (unlike my current adapter), I suggest going for the right angle tips (found here).

@robert – Yes, it will work with those Sony batteries, just have to find the right plate that bumps it to 12V. Unless i’m doing something wrong, the BMPCC will not power up if the input is not 12V. Those plates are out there, just trying to find a good deal on one.
Yeah I said before I think the camera should be slightly bigger to accommodate those sorts of batteries. It would only have to be slightly taller and a bit deeper, which would help as a hand grip and the extra space doesn’t really matter because a lens has to take up space in the same direction. It’s one of the few spaces that can afford to get bigger.

@Geoff – The battery plate i’m using is compatible to any battery that would normally fit the Canon GL2 camcorder. These are still popular batteries as they were used on many camcorder models. Typically the number represents the size of the battery (smaller or larger capacity).
You’ve inspired me to tinker a bit, and wiring the external power plug to a standard EN-EL20 battery plate and giving it a go, I can confirm that the camera WILL RUN with a 7.2v battery. It won’t charge the internal battery, and with some quick tests I only seem to get an extra half hour of battery life (one EN-EL20 in the camera and one EN-EL20 plugged airwick in externally). The only problem is, I’m not sure if I really want to do this long term. Just because it works doesn’t mean it’s good for it…
@John – The size of the EN-EL20 is limited, so I doubt you’ll ever get enough run time to justify the extra bulk. It’s probably better to look for a larger battery type that can offer a couple of hours of extra run time.
@Emm Oh for sure, I just had it around and I wanted to see if it would work. But I’m more concerned about the long term effects of running less than 12V through the camera. To be perfectly honest I’d be happy enough

I want to install a sump pump backup in my basement - When it rains a lot, my main pump kicks in quite often I have a generator, but I am not fully covered if I am not here when power goes down, or if my main pump fails So I want a battery operated amway2u backup I have 2 options: a 12V system (such as Wayne ESP 25 or Watchdog basement) directly powered amway2u by the battery, or a regular sump pump (110 VAC) powered by the battery thru an inverter (1,200 or 1,500W I guess) But I ve heard that the inverter option will give less autonomy, since the inverter itself will consume energy even at idle, and is not 100% efficient either amway2u However, how can I find out the difference in terms of autonomy: is it going to be only few % less with an inverter, or the impact is much bigger than that and I am better off with a 12V pump?
I would go with the 12 volt system. Less power consumption than with the inverter setup. I say option b. Option a will need a float charger on it anyway which (i think) negates any efficiency savings over the inverter. Plus you don't have to buy another pump, which is likely amway2u the most expensive part of the upgrade.
Well, I will need a trickle charger for both options anyway, since it s a backup running out of a 12V battery when the power is off And I still want a 2nd sump pump, to be protected as well in case the primary pump fails What will be more easy (less consumption) on the battery: 12V pump or 110VAC regular pump with inverter?

Depends on how much current a 12 Volt DC pump would draw versus how much the inverter + 110VAC pump would draw..... One good thing about using the inverter option is that the inverter (if it has the capabilities) will cut off the power when the battery level gets too low (and sound an alarm), versus a straight 12 volt pump, which would run until the battery is useless...... and if you are not going to be using a deep cycle battery, discharging it below 10 volts will cause issues with an SLA battery, and you may have to replace it more often than you would prefer... but then again with a 12 volt system without an inverter, you could use a low battery cut off circuit amway2u to prevent the battery from discharging too low. Here is described how to make a solar charging station for a 12V lead battery. 8Ah capacity allows to keep alive a wireless webcam 24/7. Lead battery needs protection against overcharging and deep discharge that is realized by  two black boxes. One box switches off solar cell when the battery sachet voltage becomes 13V. Construction is done using a prototyping board. Another black box protects sachet battery for deep discharge. It switches off the load when voltage decreases below 10V and switches it back when voltage increases above 12 V. Emphasis is on low idle discharge current tha tis 5 mA. Well, I replaced all the ABS relays with the relays from another 'good' prius that has no error code


Hello Everyone, I have an 04 Prius that recently had the HV battery rebuilt with replacement of a couple of cells. It now is showing dash lights of Red Triangle, Small Exclamation, and VSC. Error codes are coming up on techstream v9 as P3000 curr P0A84 hist C1310 curr C1311 curr (all 4 of the above have asterixes by them ) B1421 curr (no asterix) The car is running perfectly and seems to be fine. Any suggestions or comments? There are no dealers anywhere nearby that I trust. Thanks!

DTC P0A84 means that the traction battery cooling fan voltage is lower than it should riese be. DTC P3000 is reported by the hybrid vehicle ECU and indicates the traction battery ECU has a problem DTC C1310 is reported by the skid control ECU and indicates a communication problem with the hybrid vehicle ECU DTC C1311 is reported by the skid control ECU and indicates a problem with ABS Relay #1 1. Check your 12V battery voltage and replace the battery if it is marginal. Marginal means anything below 12.4V when the car is IG-OFF, after the car has rested overnight. If the battery is less than four years old, first try fully-charging it before replacement. 2. If the battery is good, check ABS Relay #1 and replace as needed. The relay can be found in the main relay/fuse box next to the inverter, behind the driver's headlight. Remove the relay and apply 12VDC to the coil terminals. Measure resistance across the switched terminals, should be 0.5 ohm or less using a digital multimeter. 3. Thank you ! I have a friend with a second prius that works fine. I have been cannibalizing parts off his to help diagnose this. In fact, I replaced the entire riese HV battery and the 12V battery with the batteries from the 'good' prius and this did not fix the problem so those components are not the culprits. The HV battery was carefully balanced (by me) before installation and it's now working fine in my friend's car. I will swap out that relay and post the results here!
Well, I replaced all the ABS relays with the relays from another 'good' prius that has no error codes and it made no difference! So the HV battery was replaced, the 12V battery was replaced, and the ABS relays were replaced. Still no luck so far.
Prior to the traction riese battery failing, riese were any warning lights on having riese to do with the brake system or VSC? What tool do you use to retrieve the DTC, and did you clear the DTC after swapping the ABS relay 1 and the 12V battery? What codes are logged after the parts were swapped? Does DTC C1311 still remain now? If yes, the next step would be to replace riese the skid control ECU but this is not minor since the dashboard riese (including riese passenger airbag) and the steering column (which includes the steering wheel and driver airbag) have to be removed for access. That DTC has only three fault possibilities: ABS relay 1, skid control riese ECU, or the associated wiring harness. You may want to access techinfo.toyota.com to see the troubleshooting tree associated with C1311 and do the suggested testing before going to the trouble of replacing the skid control ECU, since that will take a substantial effort. The HV Battery, 12V Battery, all ABS relays were swapped with confirmed working ones. The DTCs were all cleared using a Mini VCI scan tool. The dash error lights remained off for approx 10 miles then came back on (this is the same pattern as happens if the 12V battery is disconnected for a time - the dash lights go off but return after approx 10 miles). The error codes are now P3000, P0A84, C1310 Car run fine and gets over 50mpg. I really hope to avoid replacing the skid control ECU. They are only $50 used but a major hassle to get to! Plus I'd hate to go through that hassle unless it's absolutely the ECU that is the problem. Thanks for your help with this!
Let's ignore C1310 for the moment, and talk about P0A84. Since you swapped the traction battery, I assume this also included a swap of the traction battery ECU which resides within the traction battery case. The following riese are the suspect items: BATT FAN fuse Battery blower relay No. 1 Battery blower riese assembly Quarter vent duct (battery blower motor controller) P3000 is logged by the hybrid riese vehicle ECU and means the traction battery ECU has a problem. If P0A84 is addressed, P3000 might go away. Which car has the original ABS relays from the Prius that logged C1311? Has that code disappeared now?
UPDATE- I replaced: The battery cooling fan blower assembly The quarter vent duct with the sensor The blower relay The brake capacitor next to the 12v battery With parts from a good Prius. That seems to have fixed it. No errors for over 100 miles. The weird thing is that I put the 'bad' parts back into the other Prius and it is also working fine with no error codes.
